The Benue State Christian Elders Forum has endorsed Rev. Dr. Tor Uja as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, during the 2026 Benue Christian Congress held at the Jerusalem Mission House in Makurdi.
Speaking at the event, Archbishop Benjamin Kurudu, on behalf of the Christian Elders, said the decision followed consultations among Christian communities across Benue State. He noted that Rev. Uja emerged as a consensus choice and called on residents to support his candidacy in the 2027 election.
Also speaking, Hon. Caleb Aba, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), welcomed Rev. Uja’s interest in contesting under the party’s platform. He praised his track record and leadership experience, urging party members to participate in the ongoing e-registration exercise. Aba assured the aspirant of a fair and transparent process within the party.
In his remarks, Rev. Tor Uja said his decision to join the race was driven by his desire to improve governance and address challenges facing the state. He pledged to focus on security, economic stability, and the welfare of citizens if elected.
He also appreciated supporters who turned out in large numbers, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Rev. Uja, a cleric, journalist, and administrator, has served as Commissioner for Information and Social Development, as well as Commissioner for Commerce and Industries in Benue State. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission from 2016 to 2026.
