Senate Appropriation Committee Unveils 2026 Budget Timetable
Abuja, Nigeria  30th January 2026. Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, has announced the official timetable for the consideration and passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

Senator Adeola confirmed that soft copies of the budget documents would be distributed immediately to all standing committees, while hard copies would be provided to subcommittee chairmen and their secretariats later today.
According to the Chairman, the budget hearings and engagements with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) will take place from Monday, 2nd February to Friday, 13th February 2026. During this period, the President’s economic team will brief the committee on the proposed ₦58.18 trillion appropriation bill, reviewing the performance of the 2025 budget and highlighting the administration’s economic policies and priorities.

Senator Adeola emphasized that, effective 1st April 2026, the 2026 budget would consolidate any outstanding items from the 2024 and 2025 budgets, as there will be no further extensions for previous years.
A public hearing on the budget will be held on 9th February 2026, under the theme: “From Budget to Impact: Strengthening Macroeconomic Stability, Accelerating Infrastructure Delivery, and Improving Security through Fiscal Discipline and Effective Implementation of the 2026 Budget.”

Subcommittee chairmen are expected to submit and defend their budget reports, including findings and recommendations, from 16th to 23rd February 2026. The coalition and finalization of reports by the appropriation committee will run from 24th February to 15th March 2026, with the presentation of the committee’s report before the Senate scheduled for 17th March 2026.
Senator Adeola highlighted that the 2026 budget aims to be people-oriented, supporting everyday needs of Nigerians, while providing a clear framework for private sector planning. The final document will include both detailed and summary versions to ensure transparency and effective implementation.
